writer | actor | playwright | producer | funny human

Hi! I’m Kate Kugler, a D.C.-born activist and artist. My work uses levity and high-concept lenses to confront the toughest bits of being human: like Alzheimer’s, climate change, and HOA boards. My short story “The Vegetarians” is being published this year as part of the Strange Gravity anthology book, currently represented by Buchwald. I was a 2023 Playwriting Fellow with Ammunition Theater, and a 2024 grant recipient from the Vital Projects Fund for my documentary film about prison reform “Redemption”.  At moment, I’m executive producing a TV adaptation of a hit Japanese manga alongside Unapologetic Projects (producers of Sundance winner “Didi”) and have developed with Amazon, Fable Entertainment, Sobini Films and others. My screenplays have been finalists and semi-finalists at Sundance, Slamdance, The Script Lab, ScreenCraft TV Pilot, Moonshot Initiative, and more.

For lol’s, catch my mockumentary series The Truest Crime, boasting 15k+ followers on Youtube and over 150k views across platforms, which I wrote, directed, and star in.

Wanna see me on the screen? Check out feature films Land of Gold (Tribeca 2022), Dance Dads (Austin Film Festival 2022, Audience Award Winner), and Intersect (Boston Sci-Fi Fest 2019), as well as in award-winning short films Sister Mercy (Fantasia Festival 2019) and Savage Season (Hollyshorts 2025).  My theater credits include leading roles in productions by Arizona's Vessel Theater, Progressive Theater Works, and Phoenix Theater. I made my film premiere as a lead in Stitched, a film directed by Garth Ennis (Co-Executive Producer/Writer of AMC hits Preacher & The Boys), which I repped on a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

In my downtime, I snuggle my corgi, hike, and read way too much about climate change. I have a healthy relationship with my dad, and an unhealthy relationship with Shakespeare.
